Who Is ICSB-Mobile Delaware?
ICSB is actively holding training programs for qualified inseminators. These inseminators are located in major areas around the country and overseas. The training consists of a one-day workshop, followed by in-house testing.
Our program is not entirely stud oriented. There are distinct advantages for the bitch owner who uses the ICSB program. ICSB has, as part of its program, testing laboratories that can provide progesterone and estrogen assay values for actual hormone levels within 24 hours. In addition, having locally trained inseminators will enable breeders to use a popular stud that is far away. Now, instead of going to the considerable risk, expense and time consuming task of shipping your bitch, ICSB can make a popular stud available regardless of prior bookings or show or field trial schedules. This program greatly decreases exposure of the dogs to infectious agents and diseases spread by natural service. The most unique advantage will be the availability of a great sire for years after his death.
Fees for collecting and freezing your stud''''s semen are based on personnel time, lab expenses and overhead at the ICSB centers. Each center is its own unit and can collect, evaluate, freeze, store, ship, and artificially inseminate frozen or fresh extended canine semen as you need.
FREEZING DOG SEMEN
Once semen collection may be divided into several vials. One vial is equal to one insemination. One surgical or two vaginal breedings are performed on the bitch during her estrous cycle, which requires one vial for each breeding. Our fees reflect this in that the minimum fee includes up to four vials of semen stored. On the average, the stud dog will produce 4 or more vials. ICSB personnel have spent several years in research in determining the minimum number of live, motile, normal sperm cells required to produce conception in different dog breeds. Two to three vials are usually recommended for each estrous cycle; however, we have been successful using one vial in over 40 cases. If the client wishes to store only the four vials, ICSB will package the frozen semen into four vials, even though there may have been more than four breeding doses possible from the collection. ICSB will not package less than what we have found to be the minimum number of motile sperm cells necessary for conception, unless a specific written request is submitted by the semen owner.
One of the questions asked by ICSB clients is, how do I go about using the frozen semen and what are the costs involved in using it? Once the semen is stored, the semen owner will receive instructions and release forms from ICSB. A release form must be received by ICSB at the time the frozen semen is shipped.
The approximate costs (domestic shipping) for using the frozen semen once it is stored are:
Set-up fee ($35 base) This is for charging the shipping container with liquid nitrogen, packaging and labeling the container in a protective carrier, providing thaw media, return labels, documentation, and reporting to the appropriate registry. This is considering 3 days notice – if less than 2 days notice the charge will be from $50 - $75.
Shipping tank rental – first 7 days = $40 From 8 days or longer = $10 a day (there is a deposit on the shipping tank of $1000 that is refunded upon the tanks safe return).
Shipping fee ranges from $35 to $150 for the US, each way. Although the shipping container is insured the semen is normally considered a perishable product and is uninsurable.
Insemination Fee - ICSB does not set this amount, but in general, the fee will range between $45 and $150 for non-surgical insemination, or from $250 for surgical. Please contact the vet that will be doing the insemination for their fee schedule.
Who pays the fees? The responsibility of shipping is the semen owners'', but is usually paid by the bitch owner. In the event the bitch owner does not pay the shipping fees, the semen owner will be billed for the costs.
The stud owner can have semen frozen then sell the stud, but still retain ownership of the frozen semen and register progeny from the frozen semen, even though the stud dog is no longer his/ hers.
To arrange for having semen stored from your dog, we need the following information:
1. A copy of the dog''''s registration,
2. Signed authorization.
3. If AKC registered, a DNA Profile No.
